An outline of the tentative workshop agenda is presented below:

Morning Session (8:30 AM to 12:10 PM)

  • a) Opening remarks: 8:30 AM to 8:45 AM
  • b) Managing large datasets - some challenges and solution strategies: 8:45 AM to 9:15 AM
  • c) The national cyberinfrastructure and resources related to managing large datasets: 9:15 AM 9:45 AM
  • d) Introduction to Linux and user environment on Stampede supercomputer, part-1 (hands-on session): 9:45 AM to 10:15 AM
  • e) Break: 10:15 AM to 10:30 AM
  • f) Introduction to Linux and and user environment on Stampede supercomputer, part-2 (hands-on session): 10:30 AM to 11:10 AM
  • g) Downloading and installing the DROID tool for metadata extraction: 11:10 AM to 12:10 PM
  • h) Lunch Break: 12:10 PM to 1:30 PM

Afternoon Session (1:30 PM to 6:00 PM)

  • i) Overview of the protocols for data transfer: 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM
  • j) Hands-on exercises on data transfer, metadata extraction and checksum calculation on a remote HPC/HTC resource: 2:00 PM to 3:15 PM.
  • k) Break, 3:15 PM to 3:30 PM
  • l) Hands-on exercise on information visualization using Tableau: 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM.
  • m) Introduction to databases and how to use them on remote HPC/HTC/high-end storage resources: 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM
