Frequently Asked Questions

General

Question: What are the dates of camp?
Answer: Monday, June 19, 2017 (check-in) through Friday, June 23, 2017 (check-out)

Question: Where will the camp be located?
Answer: J.J. Pickle Research Campus, 10100 Burnet Road Austin, TX 78758. Classes will be in the Advanced Computing Building.

Question: What are the ages of the CODE @ TACC Wearables participants?
Answer: Participants are rising juniors, seniors and those entering college.

Question: Can parents/guardians get involved in the camp?
Answer: Parents are encouraged to attend final presentations on the last day of the program.

Question: What is the cost of camp?
Answer: CODE @ TACC Wearables is $550 for the entire week of activities, materials and meals. You must provide your own transportation to Texas Advanced Computing Center, which is located on the Pickle Research Campus.

Question: Who will be supervising my child during the camp?
Answer: Students will be supervised from 9a – 4pm by UT approved student counselors. These approved counselors have been background checked (also checked through the national sex offender registry) and received child protection training.

Question: Should students bring their own computer or laptop?
Answer: Participants will need to bring laptops from home. TACC laptops can be loaned to students during camp operating times.
 

Housing

Question: Where will the students be staying during the course of the program?
Answer: This is a commuter camp. Participants are responsible for their housing along with travel to and from the camp each day.
 

Health

Question: What if my child has food allergies or special dietary needs?
Answer: Please let us know of any dietary restrictions so that food options will be offered to fit your student's dietary needs.

Question: What if my child needs to see a doctor?
Answer: We have an on campus health service for minor treatment (512-471-4955), Monday through Friday 8am – 5pm. For emergency treatment, students will be transported to St. David's North Austin Medical Center (12221 N. Mopac).
 

Clothing

Question: What is the dress code?
Answer: During the week, students should bring comfortable and appropriate clothing for 90F during the day and 70F in the classrooms.
 

Leaving Campus

Question: May I leave campus?
Answer: Participants will not be allowed to leave campus during the program operating hours.

Question: Can my child leave the camp early?
Answer: Participants will be unable to leave campus during the operating hours of the camp.
