SC14 Podcast: Keshav Pingali on Reordering Algorithms and Galois

Computer scientists from the University of Texas at Austin's Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences (ICES) teamed up with researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to present work at the technical program of the supercomputing conference SC14. On the research team is Keshav Pingali, a professor in the computer science department at UT Austin and a member of ICES. The work presented is the first parallel implementation of two widely used reordering algorithms for sparse matrix computations. It relied on a project called Galois, a runtime system to "effectively find what can be done in parallel while running the program itself," explained Pingali.

"ICES and the University of Texas is a great place to be because we have access to all these great machines at TACC so we can try out our ideas," said Pingali.
