How and why proteins fold is a problem that has implications for protein design and therapeutics.

B. Montgomery Pettitt and his research group at the University of Texas Medical Branch explore protein folding in bacteriophage DNA and other systems using advanced computing resources at the Texas Advanced Computing Center.

Recent studies suggest the introduction of kinking into configurations of DNA packaged within spherical confinement lowers energies and pressures and allows for compression.

They published their results in the June issue of the Journal of Computational Chemistry.
