Story Highlights

The DesignSafe natural hazards research platform has received a grant renewal of $15.5 million from the NSF to run through 2025.

DesignSafe is a collaboration between UT Austin's Cockrell School of Engineering and TACC, and includes faculty members from around the country.

With more than 5,000 users, the platform currently features 293 published data sets. Researchers have uploaded data documenting the damage from more than 50 major disasters.

Giving researchers more ways to analyze this information is a top priority of DesignSafe going forward.

TACC plays an important role in hosting the data on its cloud servers, and researchers there are building next-generation analytical tools using machine learning and artificial intelligence and making them available to DesignSafe users.
