A former Air Force officer and instructor pilot, he served as Associate Professor and Chief of the Division of Applied Mathematics in the Air Force Academy's Department of Mathematical Sciences. After hanging up his uniform he joined Northrop Grumman as a senior scientific analyst, supporting the software needs of scientists in the defense intelligence community, and then became manager of a large engineering team tasked with automating the management of flying training for the Air Force and Navy. Before joining TACC in January 2012 he spent eleven years teaching high school computer science and mathematics.
