Aerial Vehicle Control Onkar Sahni and Ken Jansen, RPI One particular problem case involves study of active flow control on aerial vehicles using synthetic jet actuators. This work seeks to gain fundamental understanding of the effects of these actuators based on numerical simulations (performed by Onkar Sahni and Ken Jansen) in complement to experimental investigations (carried out by Joshua Wood and Michael Amitay at RPI). For example, use of one pair of synthetic jets over an airfoil can be seen in images, where velocity components on a plane across actuator are shown at an instant along with contours of stream-wise vorticity and unstructured mesh (on the back plane). |
