Annual Giving frequently asked questions

Why does UT solicit money every year?
Private support makes the difference between being average and being excellent. Annual gifts to TACC help ensure that the center will continue to offer world-class resources and services, innovative research and development activities, and groundbreaking education and outreach programs. Annual gifts also boost the university's reputation: U.S. News & World Report considers alumni participation in annual giving when it ranks the nation's universities.

Doesn't the state of Texas provide funding for TACC?
With state funds comprising less than 16 percent of the university's annual budget, UT Austin relies on private gifts to strengthen its position among the nation's best institutions of higher learning. Investing in the university can help attract and retain the best faculty, provide a superior educational experience for students, and support new research across the campus.

Is my gift tax-deductible?
Yes. In most cases the full value of your gift is tax-deductible.

What are matching gifts?
Many employers offer a charitable matching-gift program--please check with your human resources office to see if your company has a matching-gift program. You may be able to double or triple the size of your gift to TACC!
