EnVision

EnVision: A Web-Based Interface to Remote Visualization Resources

EnVision is a new web-based tool for remote visualization developed at TACC. EnVision dramatically simplifies the visualization process via semi-automation of data importation and selection of visualization methods. In addition, EnVision makes scientific visualization accessible to those without prior visualization experience, while offering a solid set of visualization methods that will also appeal to expert users.

Visualizing data with EnVision is easy:

  1. EnVision automatically launches a remote visualization job on a user-selected visualization resource;
  2. The user is queried about the file format and properties of the data using familiar vocabulary;
  3. The user is presented with thumbnail images showing a selection of visualization algorithms appropriate to the type of data previously indicated;
  4. The user selects one or more visualization methods and interactively explores the data; and
  5. Snapshots can be saved and cataloged for later use.

EnVision can be accessed at http://envision.tacc.utexas.edu and currently supports the use of the Maverick Terascale Visualization System as a resource. Users must have an account and allocation on Maverick in order to use EnVision.

TeraGrid users can find information on how to apply for access to Maverick here. UT and UT System users can apply for access to Maverick via the TACC User Portal: here. For more information about EnVision, contact Gregory P. Johnson at gregj@tacc.utexas.edu.
