
Since 2008, Ranger – one of the world’s most powerful supercomputers — has churned out computations to help solve some of the world’s most critical problems, from climate change to the Swine Flu.
On Feb. 4, 2010, Ranger celebrated the two-year anniversary of its commitment to scientific research in the service of society.
In the days that followed the Haiti earthquake, first responders arrived in Haiti to distribute aid and medical relief and to assist in the search and rescue effort, locating people in the wreckage and bringing them to safety.
These efforts, however, wouldn’t have been as well-coordinated and successful as they were without the use of accurate satellite and aerial imagery of the kind provided by UT’s Center for Space Research and Texas Advanced Computing Center.
